Dirty Wknd New Year's Revolution Series 2019
The accepted wisdom is that winter can be a tough time to ride a bike. It's darker, colder and that little bit harder to get out of bed in the mornings. However winter can also be a wonderful time to ride a bike - think low winter sun, creamy hot chocolates, crisp winter mornings and warming pizza post ride. Do you know what was voted the number one winter riding motivator in 2018? (probably)
Friends. That's right - pals, chums, buddies. A group of people to ride with is the single biggest motivator to get you out on the road. Knowing other people will be meeting at the start, knowing you'll have someone to chat with and learn from on the ride, and most importantly knowing you'll have someone to have a smug celebratory pizza with post ride will certainly motivate you to keep cycling through January.
Our 2018 Revolution Resolution Series was a huge success, with 50 odd riders of all abilities turning up every Sunday in January to ride, chat and learn. We rode out to Surrey in cold, crisp sunlight, and extended the distance each week to increase fitness post xmas. The less said about the mid Jan ride to Windsor the better (if you were there, you know!) but on the whole the weather was good and the atmosphere and enthusiasm from everyone involved was truly inspiring.
So we're doing it all again! Our 2019 New Year's Revolution Series challenges you to complete a series of rides throughout January and hopefully stick to your 2019 fitness goals. Starting off with a fairly gentle ride to ease into the year (and work off some of those mince pies), we will increase the distance building you up to Box Hill by the end of January. With the help of the group and our ride leaders you will get the support and motivation you need to keep riding through January. Not only will you keep to your fitness goals for 2019, but you will meet a great group of cyclists who will make the rides loads of fun! Full details of the rides below:
New Years Revolution Ride Series 2019
Ride #1 - 'Ease Your Way Back Into Esher' - Sunday 6th Jan
Work off those extra mince pies and kick start your 2019 cycling (nice and gently). This London group ride will be 40-60km, 2-4 routes/groups (beginner to intermediate). Everyone welcome & perfect for beginners looking to get into cycling. Coffee stop halfway, professionally led with pizza after (optional).
Ride #2 - 'Raise The Bar In Ripley' - Sunday 13th Jan
Staying on flat ground - ride two will increase the distance and raise the bar. Still 2-4 groups/routes, so all levels welcome. This ride will be 60 - 70km of pure fun in the Ripley Lanes. Perfect for new cyclists looking to get into group riding and explore a bit more. Coffee stop at Pinnocks in Ripley, return to Dynamo for pizza.
Ride #3 - 'Wind It Up In Windsor' - Sunday 20th Jan
Where else but Windsor! Flat(ish) roads and a great chance to up the distance again. Cycling to Windsor is the perfect route for winter, and it's also a great group ride for new and beginner cyclists. For those more experienced riders taking part we'll push the distance and pace a bit more. 2-4 groups, 70-90km and a famous 'bun stop' at Cinnamon Cafe.
Ride #4 - 'Blow It Out At Box Hill' - Sunday 27th Jan
After 3 mostly flat rides, we'll take on the famous Box Hill in Surrey. Not as fearsome as the reputation suggests, Box is the perfect hill for beginners looking to increase their cycling speed and distance. 2-4 groups, 80-100km, coffee stop at Destination Bike!
Ride Lots - Win Socks
Committing to four rides in January will set you on the right track to achieving your cycling goals for 2019 in the very first month! You'll get a real sense of achievement, you will have ridden throughout the most unforgiving month of the year with a great group of people, and you will hopefully make some cycling friends who you'll see on group rides for the rest of 2018!
Not only that, but if you complete all 4 rides we'll give you a free pair of club socks! So alongside the sense of achievement you will get, you'll have a snazzy new pair of socks to shoe for your efforts.
All of our normal weekend rides and midweek lap sessions will also be continuing through January alongside this series. If the weather is really atrocious then we will head to a 10am Digme Fitness Class in Richmond instead. This will be announced in the run up to the ride by email to those signed up.
