Riding your first 50 miles (80km) is a real benchmark for any new cyclist. Cycling the distance between London and Brighton is no mean feat, and the sense of achievement you get at the end of a 50 mile ride is pretty huge.
However getting started on such a ride can be daunting! We're well aware that joining a cycling group to take part in your first group ride is pretty scary. What if it's too fast? What if I get a puncture? What if no one talks to me?! We've all been there, which is why all of our rides have a 'no drop' policy, meaning that no one gets left behind. We always ride at the pace of the slowest person and always encourage, support and help everyone on the ride. There are no egos and everyone is improving, learning and growing in ability together!
Mira, who is the ride leader for this series, came to us as a complete beginner and, through regular group rides, is now set to take on Ride London this July. Mira is a real success story, and one of the loveliest and most encouraging people we know, so we're super excited to have her lead this series of rides. She'll be on hand to answer questions, help you improve your cycling and knock off those miles with ease!
Mira's 50 Mile Build Up Series 5th - 25th Aug
The series will consist of 4 rides, the first of which is a 20 mile ride, with the subsequent rides increasing in length to reach that magic 50 mile marker. Please see all the relevant ride info below (click on the links to sign up) N.B. Whilst we'd love you to do all 4 rides, there's no obligation to do so. If you can only make a few rides then that's totally fine.
Ride #1: Sunday 5th August - 20 Miles
20 mile ride over flat terrain to the edge of Epping Forest for coffee and cake. No drop, beginner pace with tips and training. The perfect intro to group riding.
Ride #2: Sunday 12th August - 30 Miles
Slight increase in distance means going into the forest a little further (for different coffee and cake!) Same beginner level and fun vibe!
Ride #3: Sunday 19th August - 40 Miles
Slight increase again - more countryside & lanes, same good coffee and cake! Few hills to test the legs and increase the effort level a little.
Ride #4: Saturday 25th August - 50 Miles
The series finale! 50 mile group ride with cafe stop. Same no drop policy and beginner pace so all can enjoy the ride. Celebrate the end of August at peak fitness ready for autumn riding!
